About Us

The mission of the Universal Center for Development is to provide a comprehensive program that integrates academic and vocational training for young adults and adults with disabilities, the socially and economically disadvantaged, Veterans and Homecomers. Our goal is to assist these individuals in acquiring marketable skills necessary for survival in a technological society.

Founded in 2004, the Universal Center for Development (UCD) is a non-profit, non-tuition training cener established for residents for the District of Columbia-Maryland-Virginia area ages 16 and older.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Center for Development, Steven Willis was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools. As a learning disabled student, Steven often faced learning challenges and received poor grades and eventually - dropped out of school. These experiences helped him to realize learning is a lifelong process and the community must be involved in assisting young adults in meeting the ever-growing educational challenges. Steven is a gifted craftsman in carpentry, construction, and kitchen and bath cabinetmaking. His vision through sharing his talents is to enable others to learn trades, skills, and competencies necessary for successful career development.
